A Little Recognition We're Very Proud Of
It is hard to believe how much has happened since we took the leap and opened the doors to The Town House as our own.
As a husband-and-wife duo, this first year has been filled with long days, exciting moments, plenty of learning and, above all, an enormous amount of passion for what we are creating here in the heart of Arundel.
Recently, we were incredibly proud to receive 3 AA Silver Stars and 2 AA Rosettes — the highest level achievable on our first inspection.
For us, this recognition means so much more than the accolades themselves. It is a wonderful acknowledgement of the standards we are working hard to establish at The Town House, not only in Matt’s kitchen, but throughout every part of the guest experience.
From the food and wine to the rooms, the little details and the welcome we give our guests, we are striving to create something that feels considered, personal and genuinely special.
To have that work recognised during our first year as owners is something we are immensely proud of.
A Few Words From The Telegraph
It has also been incredibly special to see The Town House featured in some wonderful publications recently, including The Telegraph, The Observer, The Caterer and The Arbuturian.
One particular review in The Telegraph, by Annabelle Thorpe, captured something that feels very close to our hearts — the sense of being here at the very beginning of our story.
“But what really sets The Town House apart is Matt and Jenni themselves, and the sense – as a guest – of being there at the beginning of something unique. I’ve never eaten in a restaurant of this standard run by just two people; it gave the evening a charm and warmth often lacking in fine dining.”
That sense of being at the beginning is something we hope our guests feel when they visit us.
We are still a small husband-and-wife team. We are still learning, evolving and finding our feet. But perhaps that is also part of what makes The Town House what it is. There is a real sense of us behind everything — from the dishes Matt creates to the wines I choose, and from the rooms themselves to the conversations we have with our guests.
To have our little venture recognised in this way, particularly after such a busy and exciting first summer, has been incredibly humbling.
And while we are immensely proud of how far we have come, we know that we are only just getting started.
🎙️ Our Story — Now on Podcast
We were recently invited to sit down with Visit Arundel to record a podcast, hosted by Mark and Caroline Worship of Sefton Place.
It was a wonderful opportunity to take a step back from the day-to-day running of The Town House and talk about the journey that brought us here — from how we first met, through our individual careers and experiences, to eventually taking the leap to embark on our first solo venture together.
And, of course, what it means to do that here in our hometown of Arundel.
We talked about the journey behind The Town House, what inspired us to take on this beautiful historic property and our hopes for what we can create here in the years ahead.
Sometimes, when you are immersed in the everyday running of a restaurant and four-bedroom guesthouse, it is easy to forget just how much has happened to get you to this point. Sitting down to tell our story gave us the chance to reflect on the journey so far — and to think about where we might go next.
The podcast is now available to listen to on Spotify and Apple Podcasts, and we would love for you to hear more about the story behind Matt, Jenni and The Town House.
We hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed recording it.
Looking Ahead
There is plenty happening behind the scenes at The Town House as we head towards the festive season.
Matt is already looking ahead to the changing seasons and the menus to come, while we continue to develop the rooms, the restaurant and the experiences we offer our guests.
There are exciting things in the pipeline, some of which we can share very soon and others that are still quietly taking shape behind closed doors.
For now, we simply want to say thank you.
Thank you to everyone who has stayed with us, dined with us, raised a glass with us, recommended us, written about us, shared our story or simply stopped by to say hello.
We are incredibly grateful for the support we have received during our first year, and for everyone who has chosen to be part of the beginning of this journey.
There is still so much more we want to create.
And we cannot wait to share it with you.
